Rap titan Kendrick Lamar and alt-R&B star SZA have extended their stay atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Their smash hit “Luther,” named after Luther Vandross, is No. 1 for a ninth consecutive week on the popular singles chart.
According to Billboard, “Luther” is the second-longest-running No. 1 rap song on the Hot 100 in the 2020s, behind only Roddy Ricch’s “The Box,” which reigned for 11 weeks in 2020.
Additionally, it extends both artists’ records for their longest-running No. 1 on the Hot 100.
Here is an overview of Kendrick Lamar’s No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart:
“Luther” debuted on the Hot 100 in early December 2024. During the week of March 1, it reached its peak position on the chart, becoming Lamar’s sixth No. 1 and SZA’s third. Her other No. 1s are “Kill Bill” and “Slime You Out” with Drake.
Elsewhere on Billboard, “Luther” is No. 1 on the following charts: Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (17th week), R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs (15th week), Streaming Songs (7th week), Rap Airplay (4th week), and Radio Songs (3rd week), among others. It previously topped the Adult R&B Airplay chart for three weeks.
On April 11, Lamar and SZA released the official video for “Luther,” directed by Karena Evans. At the time of this writing, the video has surpassed 15 million views on YouTube.
“Luther” is the latest single from Lamar’s album, GNX, released via pgLang/Interscope Records in November 2024. The No. 1 album has also spawned the chart-topping “Squabble Up.”
Lamar, who headlined the Super Bowl earlier this year, and SZA launched their Grand National Tour on April 19 in Minneapolis. The sold-out show featured a three-hour combined set filled with their hits and fan favorites.
The dynamic duo will travel across North America, making stops in Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Toronto and more. The North American leg wraps up June 18 in Washington, D.C.
The European/U.K. leg of the tour kicks off July 2 in Cologne. The longtime collaborators will perform 12 additional shows in Frankfurt, Glasgow, Paris, London, and more before concluding Aug. 9 in Stockholm.
