Rated R&B is bringing you the most essential releases this week. From the traditional R&B that purists love to the boundary-pushing sounds of the alt-R&B scene, this new music roundup keeps its pulse on the essence of R&B. Dive into it below.

Lucky Daye – “Nowhere Fast”

Lucky Daye enters a new chapter with “Nowhere Fast,” his first single under Warner Records. The D’Mile-produced track will appear on his upcoming album. [Read more about Lucky Daye’s “Nowhere Fast”]

Kenyon Dixon – “No Jodeci”

As Kenyon Dixon prepares to release his new album Ego Ruins Everything on July 24, the Grammy-nominated singer unveils “No Jodeci.” Built around tip-toeing percussion by Chris Daniels, it’s an honest confession of wearing pride like armor to mask true feelings. “This ain’t no Jodeci / Girl, I can’t cry for you,” he sings. It certainly is a change in mood from the bedroom-ready “Talk You Through It,” which only suggests Dixon’s upcoming project could unpack ego as his superpower as much as it is his kryptonite.

Muni Long – “Richest”

Muni Long’s new ballad “Richest” is vulnerable and heartfelt. It highlights the complex nature of falling in love again after past heartbreak and the swirl of emotions that pull you in each direction. [Read more about Muni Long’s “Richest”]

Kwn – And All Pride Aside [EP]

Kwn’s new EP And All Pride Aside dives deeper into the world she started with 2025’s With All Due Respect. This time around, the rising R&B star gives herself the space to be more vulnerable, exploring topics such as insecurity, grief and heartbreak, while still tending to her sexual needs. Sekou – In A World We Don’t Belong Pt. 2 [mixtape]

The five new tracks on Sekou’s In A World We Don’t Belong Pt. 2 are steeped in the more complicated side of romance compared. One of the standouts, “Does She Know,” confronts a guy who is living a double life. In this case, he’s on the down low and Sekou questions his character about leading on an unsuspecting partner. “Does she know? / All the secrets you / All the things you share with me?” Sekou sings in his distinct velvety voice. Blaq Tuxedo, Trey Songz – “Crash Out (Remix)”

Genre-bending duo Blaq Tuxedo enlist Trey Songz for the official remix of their stadium anthem “Crash Out.” The adrenaline-pumping banger is lifted from their upcoming album, Boyz in the Band, which is said to bridge R&B and punk, a sound they have dubbed rhythm & punk.

Steve Lacy, SZA – “Is It Cool?”

Steve Lacy is an open book on “Is It Cool?” With a guest verse from SZA, Lacy opens up about the push and pull between wanting commitment and fearing the vulnerability that comes with it. His latest track is from his third album, Oh yeah? which drops July 17.

Devon Gilfillian – Time Will Tell [album]

Progressive soul singer Devon Gilfillian’s third album, Time Will Tell, was born from dysfunction and cycles that eventually broke him. Across 12 tracks, listeners are taken on a journey of renewal, revealing how time ultimately offers answers to the questions we’ve been seeking. Standouts include “Moonflower,” “Black Dog Rabbit Hole” and “Some Days.”

Cautious Clay – “Ivy (2pm)”

Alt-R&B singer Cautious Clay is itching to cut off an unfaithful lover on his new track “Ivy (2pm).” He explains, “‘Ivy (2pm)’ is about realizing differences and a misalignment in a relationship. Feeling vengeful or taken for granted, but simultaneously accepting where I’m at with that person.” His latest tune will appear on his upcoming project The Hours: High Noon, which drops July 31.

Angelica Vila – “Damaged”

Angelica Vila is playing offense in the game of love on her new single “Damaged.” The Dominican R&B singer’s latest release was produced by Kenneth “KP” Paige and Brody Brown. “I wanted to write something that felt like a power move disguised as a love song,” Vila said. “It’s not about being cold, it’s about knowing your worth before someone else decides it for you.”

Sinéad Harnett – “Foreign”

On “Foreign,” Sinéad Harnett discovers a love language that she never knew existed — and wants more of it.

Naomi Sharon – No Sleep In Paradise [album]

Naomi Sharon’s second album, No Sleep In Paradise, will move you physically and emotionally. Thanks to Jordan Ullman, Alex Lustig and Beaux Nox’s production, the album oscillates between pulsating electro grooves (“Miss That”) and more moody soundscapes (“Half a Lie”), as Sharon discovers how the love we crave can also deplete us.

Omarion – O2 (Part 1) [album]

Omarion is splitting his O2 album into two parts. The project is a nod to his solo debut era and a celebration of his artistic evolution since then. “2005” sounds exactly like the year it’s titled after, with the hard-hitting, breezy production locked into a Neptunes-inspired groove. Speaking of The Neptunes, their influence is undoubtedly heard on “The One,” which gives a wink to Snoop Dogg’s “Beautiful.” Other highlights include “Mood” and “I Could Do It” featuring Major League Djz.
