Love Has Chxrry Feeling Like a ‘Groupie’

“What the f**k has gotten into me?” Chxrry asks herself at the start of “Groupie,” her new single out via XO Records/Republic Records.

It’s as though the artist formerly known as Chxrry22 isn’t sure how to react to love’s bite. Produced by frequent collaborator Believve, “Groupie” finds Chxrry completely spellbound by a new lover.

“Boy, you’re so hot, wanna blow you like you’re Tootsie / I’ma superstar, but baby, for you I’m a, for you I’m a groupie,” she sings.

Chxrry’s animated falsetto aviates above the bouncy production, which captures that starry-eyed rush of a fresh romance.

“‘Groupie’ is a conceptual portrayal of the intoxicating and irrational obsession that hits when you first like someone,” explains Chxrry.

“The masked man represents desire itself – faceless because he could be anyone, he isn’t a person so much as a feeling. Around him, you’re both powerful and undone: the star everyone wants, but also the woman who craves to be wanted by him more than anything else.”

“Groupie” is the follow-up to Chxrry’s confidence-boosting anthem “Main Character” and 2000s-inspired banger “Just Like Me.”

All three tracks build anticipation for Chxrry’s debut album, scheduled for release in 2026. The forthcoming project will follow her 2023 EP, Siren.
