Mary J. Blige Celebrates Valentine’s Day With ‘More Than a Lover’

Mary J. Blige celebrates Valentine’s Day with her new single “More Than A Lover,” out via Beautiful Life Productions. 

Produced by Camper, “More Than A Lover” hears the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul basking in a transcendent romance. 

“And if that sparkle fades / It won’t affect us much / ‘Cause we got so much more than just that surface stuff / And right now I’m invested in the both of us,” Blige sings.

Blige’s new track is her first musical offering since the release of her 15th album, Gratitude, in 2024. “It’s called Gratitude because that’s where I am,” Blige explained. “I mean, look at my life right now; I’m in a constant state of gratitude.”

“More Than A Lover” is the latest addition to Blige and Camper’s collaborations that stretch back to 2017. Camper produced the No. 1 hit “Thick of It” from Blige’s Strength of a Woman, as well as the album’s other singles “Love Yourself” featuring Kanye West and “Set Me Free.” He also produced Blige’s 2020 track “See What You’ve Done” from the film The Belly of the Beast. 

“More Than A Lover” doesn’t appear to be tied to a future project. The official cover art notes it as an “exclusive Valentine’s Day single.”

This spring, Blige will kick off her first-ever Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM. She will perform five shows from May 1 through May 9, then return in July for the remaining five.
