Canadian singer-songwriter Savannah Ré has released her new album, Formed, via Matrimony Records. It’s her first independent project.
The 11-track offering includes the previously shared singles “Sex With My Ex,” “Glory” and “Nine Lives.”
“Formed was initially going to be the Part II to my last EP, No Weapons, then my life completely changed in so many ways! I became completely independent and began walking a completely different path,” says Ré.
“In a serendipitous way, Formed grew into something completely its own. The project is about the journey and all the imperfect nuances of becoming who you’re supposed to be, in a light and triumphant way.”
Among the album’s highlights is “Go’ Head,” a party-ready anthem produced by her husband, Yogi The Producer, and Boi-1da. Other standouts include the autobiographical “Made It Out” and the Brandy-coded “Where You Left Me.”
As Ré noted above, Formed is the follow-up to her 2022 EP No Weapons, which included her award-winning single “Last One” featuring Dylan Sinclair.
In November 2020, she released her debut EP, Opia, via Universal Music Canada. Speaking on the project, she told Rated R&B, “In order for me to get the body of work that I wanted to get, I had to dig deep. I had to do the work. I want to let people see me and connect with my music but for that to happen, I have to be my authentic self and that comes from introspection — it takes a lot of time and maturity to do that.”
Regarding the title track, she noted, “‘Opia’ was probably the hardest song for me to write because it is the most vulnerable song on the project. It’s really just me saying, ‘Hey, my fears might be irrational, and it may not be your fault, but listen, I’m scared. This is hard for me.’ A lot of the time, we don’t communicate what we’re going through in relationships, we go through it on our own. Then, after, we might wonder why the relationship doesn’t work out. So instead, I was just like, ‘Nah, we need to really go there and put this in song.”
