We’ve been outside all summer with new music and hot shows, including the must-not-miss ‘Nights Like This’ tour featuring AKON and Ne-Yo. “It’s the best show out there that’s for sale right now!” AKON told ThisIsRnB’s Rocki Harris before he and his co-headliner ripped the stage in Detroit. Pine Knob reverberated with pulsating rhythms as both titans performed bangers and ballads to a sold-out crowd.
“The tour’s been unbelievable. … It’s not something you can talk about or try to explain unless you’re actually physically there,” the “Smack That” singer added.
NLT gave an entire vibe of high-energy dance routines, pyrotechnics, and daring stripper stunts. A multi-instrumentalist and consummate showman, the “Lonely” crooner bounced from strumming a guitar to pounding conga drums, breathing new life into past and present hits.
His latest album, Beautiful Day, serves up a genre-spanning mix of Afrobeats, dance/EDM, pop, and R&B—perfect for backyard barbecues, island fiestas and romantic date nights. Known as a global icon, the “Dangerous” singer links with artists such as Nektunez, Jahvor, Stephen Marley, Ozuna and others. He insists that fans should add these artists to their playlist.
“Every name on there is really big in their genre. You wouldn’t know Ozuna unless you listen to Reggaeton, or Stephen Marley unless you were into Hip-Hop, or Nektunez unless you were into Afro-House,” he said. “If it’s a genre that you’re not familiar with, it gives me an opportunity to introduce you to something new.”
Once the Nights Like This tour wraps Friday, August 21 in Inglewood, California, the founder of Konvict Kulture plans to go back to work while also taking time to rest and reset. “The tour’s the fun part. I’m going back to writing songs, producing artists; take a trip back to Africa, spend some time with family.”
