Amerie Returns With New Song ‘Mine’: Listen

Amerie is back with her new single “Mine.”

She co-wrote the romantic ballad with the song’s producer, Troy Taylor. “Something about you babe, I’ll make you mine / I’ll make you mine / Don’t want no one else / I’ll make you mine,” Amerie sings in the chorus. 

“Mine” is Amerie’s first taste of new music since releasing her 2018 EPs, 4AM Mulholland and After 4AM. 

In November 2024, the “1 Thing” singer confirmed that she was back in the studio working on her new album. She and Taylor have occasionally broadcast their studio sessions on Instagram Live for her fans.  

The first song they recorded together was a track titled “Undeniable,” which they previewed during one of their live broadcasts.

“This record is called ‘Undeniable’ and it’s just the very beginning,” said Amerie. “We just wrote it and just recorded it,” she continued before sharing that it. “didn’t even take a long time” to record it. 

Taylor added, “Working with Amerie is amazing because she is invested in every note, tone, expression, harmonies and adlibs that comes out. She locks in and is dedicated till the end of the song.”

Amerie’s next album will mark her first full-length project since 2009’s In Love & War. The project featured collaborations with Trey Songz, Fabolous, and Lil Wayne. 

In other news, Amerie is gearing up to release her first novel this summer, This Is Not a Ghost Story, via William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.

Her new book, which releases June 10, “Tells the story of a Black man who walks into the light…to find himself in Los Angeles, where he becomes an instant celebrity for being the first visible and verifiable ghost.”

Speaking on her upcoming book, Amerie explained, “My novel is about a ghost—a Black man who is the first person to come back from the Other Side—but it isn’t really a ghost story. It’s an exploration of identity, race, celebrity culture, how we see the world and the people around us, and, perhaps most importantly, how we see ourselves.”

She added, “I also wanted to explore what we desire and how that desire is so intrinsically tied to our self-identity and self-worth. A few topics even snuck up on me during the writing process, like the concept of found families and how we might find the people we need most (I went from skeptic to believer!). THIS IS NOT A GHOST STORY is a novel of reckonings and homecomings, of love and self-acceptance.”
